President Donald Trump responded to backlash over his vulgar Easter Sunday post on Truth Social about the Iran war.
A reporter asked the president on Monday morning why he decided to use “such vulgar language” in his post.
“Only to make my point. I think you’ve heard it before,” Trump responded.
Why It Matters
Trump’s post comes more than a month after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran. The Middle East conflict has widened in the weeks since, and civilian death tolls continue to rise across the region amid ongoing strikes. Global oil prices have risen amid the war, creating political pressure for Trump back home as voters face high gas prices and economic strain.
What Did Donald Trump Say in His Post on Easter Sunday?
Trump’s post garnered significant backlash and calls for his Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F*****’ Strait, you crazy b*******, or you’ll be living in Hell—JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he wrote on Sunday.
Senator Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, wrote on X that if he were in Trump’s Cabinet, he “would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment,” describing the president’s post as “completely, utterly unhinged.”
What Is the 25th Amendment?
The 25th Amendment was drafted by Congress after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963 and ratified by 38 states in 1967. It was instituted to prepare for medical emergencies and incapacitation that could prevent a president from performing normal duties.
Section one of the amendment states, “In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.”
Section four states the vice president can become president whenever they, together with a majority of the Cabinet, deem the president “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
Although Trump’s critics have called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against the president, Vice President JD Vance and members of his cabinet are unlikely to do so. They remain firmly supportive of Trump and have rallied behind the Iran war. No members of the cabinet have indicated willingness to invoke the 25th Amendment.
When Could the Iran War End?
Trump said on Monday that, if he had his choice, he would like to take Iranian oil, but that “unfortunately” the American public “would like to see us come home.”
President Donald Trump speaks to reporters at the White House in Washington, D.C., on March 31.
“If I had my choice, I’d keep the oil. I would make plenty of money. But I want to keep the people of our country happy,” Trump said.
Iran’s state‑run IRNA news agency has said Tehran has rejected the latest ceasefire proposal, insisting instead on a permanent end to the war. IRNA added that Iran conveyed its position to the United States through Pakistan, which has been serving as a key intermediary.
The U.S. president said Monday that Iran made a “significant step” but that it was “not good enough.”
Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a critical passageway for the global oil supply—is also looming. The president has warned that Iran must reopen it by late Monday or face expanded U.S. strikes against power plants and infrastructure.
What People Are Saying
Representative Yassamin Ansari, an Arizona Democrat, wrote to X: “The 25th Amendment exists for a reason. The President of the United States is a deranged lunatic, and a national security threat to our country and the rest of the world.”
Newsmax host Greg Kelly wrote to X: “Everyone so ‘Horrified’ at President TRUMP and his language. GIVE ME A BREAK. This is the way people TALK. Get Over it. It’s barely lunch Time and I’ve heard the F word on the streets of NYC a dozen times. TRUMP is Keeping it Real—-WE ARE GOING TO WIN!”
Senator Patty Murray, a Washington Democrat, posted to X: “This is a deeply unwell man on a dangerous power trip, threatening possible war crimes. This is not how the President of the United States should be speaking about sending our servicemembers into harm’s way. Republicans should join Democrats to end this war immediately.”
Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene commented on X: “On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted. Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness.”
