“I think my prognosis was accurate,” Obama said. “Whether that’s what is ultimately best for the Israeli people, I would question that. Whether I think it’s what is good for the United States and America, I would question that.”

Obama chose diplomacy. He negotiated the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which placed strict limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Netanyahu opposed it relentlessly and lobbied Congress to kill it.

Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018. And on February 28, 2026, Trump and Netanyahu launched joint military strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and plunged the region into war.

The war is now in its eleventh week. The U.S. has spent over $25 billion. Iran has struck 16 U.S. military bases, causing $800 million in damage. Three U.S. service members have been killed. And there’s no exit strategy.

Obama’s revelation exposes what actually happened.

Netanyahu didn’t suddenly convince Trump that Iran was an imminent threat. Netanyahu has been making the same pitch to every American president for over a decade — pushing for war, warning that diplomacy won’t work, insisting that only military action can stop Iran.

Obama heard the pitch and said no. Trump heard the pitch and said yes.

And now the United States is at war with Iran — a war that Pentagon officials admitted was not started because Iran was preparing to attack, but because Trump and Netanyahu wanted regime change.
