BREAKING: President Trump announced that the Trump Kennedy Center will close on July 4, 2026, at which point two years of construction will begin on what he described as a “new and spectacular entertainment complex.”

**Washington, D.C. —** President Trump announced Friday that the Trump Kennedy Center will close on July 4, 2026, marking the start of a two-year construction project to build what he called a “new and spectacular entertainment complex.” The announcement was made during a public statement in which the president framed the project as a major investment in the nation’s cultural future.

According to the statement, the planned redevelopment will significantly expand the existing site, with promises of modern performance spaces, upgraded technology, and attractions designed to draw larger and more diverse audiences. Specific architectural plans and funding details were not immediately released, though officials said more information would be shared in the coming months.

The closure date coincides with Independence Day, a symbolic choice that supporters described as fitting for a project intended to “reimagine American entertainment.” Arts organizations and patrons are awaiting further guidance on how scheduled performances and resident programs will be handled during the construction period.
