🚨 🇵🇸 US President Donald Trump on Sunday urged Hamas to move forward with disarmament under his plan for postwar Gaza, and said members of his so-called “Board of Peace” had pledged $5 billion to the Palestinian territory’s reconstruction.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday called on Hamas to move forward with disarmament as part of his administration’s proposed framework for postwar governance and reconstruction in Gaza.
Speaking during a policy briefing, Trump said stability in the territory would depend on what he described as “a complete and verifiable disarmament process,” arguing that lasting peace could not be achieved while militant groups remained armed. He urged Hamas leaders to engage with mediators and accept terms aimed at transitioning Gaza toward civilian-led administration.
The president also announced that members of his newly formed “Board of Peace,” an advisory group comprised of international business leaders and former diplomats, had pledged $5 billion toward Gaza’s reconstruction. According to Trump, the funds would be directed toward rebuilding housing, restoring electricity and water infrastructure, and reopening schools and medical facilities damaged during the conflict.
Details of the reconstruction mechanism and oversight structure were not immediately released. However, administration officials indicated that the initiative would involve coordination with regional partners and international organizations to ensure transparency and accountability.
Hamas has not formally responded to Trump’s remarks. In previous statements, the group has resisted calls for disarmament, framing its military wing as a component of Palestinian resistance.
Analysts say the proposal faces significant diplomatic and political hurdles. Any agreement would likely require cooperation from regional actors, security guarantees, and broader negotiations over Gaza’s future governance. Nonetheless, Trump characterized the pledge as “a major step toward rebuilding and bringing peace to the region,” expressing optimism that momentum could build around a comprehensive postwar settlement.
